KARAMA H. HAWKINS is a Partner with HAWKINS & CRAWFORD, PLLC, the Public Defender for the City of Federal Way, and the owner of The Hawkins Law Group, LLC.
Ms. Hawkins has been practicing law since 2008, but has worked in the field of law since 1998. As a single parent, Ms. Hawkins she earned Associate of Arts Degree from North Seattle Community College in 1998. During her time at North Seattle, she was the President of the Alpha Epsilon Omega Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Ms. Hawkins also served as the president of the Black Student Union, and as the Intercollegiate and Legislative Liaison for the North Seattle Community College Associated Student Body.
Upon graduation, Ms. Hawkins began work as a paralegal in a high-volume personal injury law firm. During this time, Ms. Hawkins began attending the University of Washington. As a single parent and working full-time, Ms. Hawkins earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with an emphasis on Globalization and Social Change in 2004. Ms. Hawkins was an honor student, and was admitted to the University of Washington School of Law.
During her time in law school, Ms. Hawkins worked in various areas of the law as a legal intern, including as a teacher for the UW Upward Bound Program, for Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) Department of Security and Emergency Management, with the University of Washington School of Law Children and Youth Advocacy Clinic practicing Dependency, as legal intern with Stein Loztkar & Starr, the Public Defender for the Redmond and Bellevue District Courts, and she also worked as a contract attorney on family law cases, prison law, Public Records Act cases, and SVP Special Commitment cases with private attorneys in the King County area. In 2009, Ms. Hawkins began became a full time Defender for the City of Federal Way.
In 2013, Hawkins & Crawford, PLLC was started, and serves as the Public Defender for the City of Federal Way. In her individual practice, Ms. Hawkins works as a conflict attorney or the King County Department of Public Defense.
Ms. Hawkins is a respected and successful trial and appellate attorney. Ms. Hawkins has a love of the law, and is a dedicated, zealous, compassionate advocate for her clients.
